Managing glue records

A glue record links a nameserver hostname that itself lives under the domain (e.g. ns1.your-domain.com) to an IP address. Glue records are only needed if you run your own nameservers within the domain being managed.

Prerequisites

Before creating a glue record, check:

• that the nameserver's hostname is correct
• which IP address(es) should be assigned to the nameserver

Creating a glue record

1. Open the desired domain under Domain.
2. Go to the Glue records section.
3. Click Create glue record.
4. Enter the following:
   • Hostname (required) – the nameserver's full hostname
   • IP addresses (required) – one or more IP addresses, separated by commas
5. Save the entry.

Deleting a glue record

1. Find the entry to delete in the glue records overview.
2. Click Delete and confirm the prompt.

Note

Glue records are queried and maintained directly at the registry. Deleting a glue record can make a nameserver relying on it unreachable.

Follow-up checks

After creating or deleting, check:

• that the glue record appears correctly in the overview
• that the associated nameserver still resolves correctly
• that domains using this nameserver remain reachable

Common issues

Glue record can't be created

Possible causes:

• the hostname doesn't fall under the managed domain
• the IP addresses weren't entered correctly separated by commas

Nameserver unreachable after deletion

Possible cause:

• the glue record was still actively used by one or more domains
