Setting up email clients
This page describes the credentials needed to set up an email mailbox (email account) in an email client or on a mobile device.
Prerequisite
An email account must already be set up for the email address. Only then can the mailbox be configured in an email client. See Managing an email address.
Credentials
The following information is needed for setup:
- Username: the full email address, e.g.
mailbox-name@your-domain.tld - Password: the password set for the email account
Server settings
The IMAP and SMTP hostname matches the Hostname of the hosting package the email address belongs to. You can find it in the customer portal under:
Hosting -> [your hosting package] -> Overview -> Hostname
Note
Always use the hostname shown on your hosting package's overview page. It differs depending on which server your hosting package runs on.
IMAP (incoming mail)
- Host: your hosting package's hostname (see above)
- Port:
993 - Encryption:
SSL/TLS
SMTP (outgoing mail)
- Host: your hosting package's hostname (see above)
- Port:
465 - Encryption:
SSL/TLS
If the connection doesn't work with these settings, please contact our support team – individual server configurations may in some cases require a different port or encryption method (e.g. 587 with STARTTLS for SMTP).
Recommendation
Always use the full email address as the username.
Follow-up checks
After setup, check:
- that email can be received
- that email can be sent
- that the username and password were entered correctly
- that the correct hostname (from the hosting overview page) was used
Common issues
Sending or receiving doesn't work
Possible causes:
- wrong username (must be the full email address)
- wrong password
- wrong hostname – the hostname differs between hosting packages
- wrong port or encryption method selected
Login fails even though the email address exists
Possible cause:
- no email account has been set up for the email address yet (see Managing an email address)
