Settings and deletion

This page describes an Object Storage instance's overall access policy, as well as its transfer and deletion.

Changing the access policy (privacy)

The privacy setting determines whether and how the bucket can be accessed without credentials. It applies in addition to the per-file/per-folder settings described in Managing objects.

  1. Open the desired Object Storage under Object Storage.
  2. Click Edit at the top right.
  3. Select one of the following under Privacy:
    • Read-write (public)
    • Write-only
    • Read-only
    • Private
  4. Save the change.

Note

A public access policy allows access to the bucket's contents without credentials. Only choose this setting if that's explicitly desired.

Transferring Object Storage

In the Edit section, you can transfer the Object Storage to another team via Transfer.

Deleting Object Storage

Warning

Deleting an Object Storage instance irrevocably removes the bucket and all files it contains.

  1. Open the Edit section of the Object Storage instance.
  2. In the Delete section, enter the full name of the Object Storage exactly as displayed.
  3. Click Delete.

Follow-up checks

After changing the access policy, check:

  • that access via S3 tools still works as expected
  • that public content is only reachable if that's intended

After deleting, check:

  • that the Object Storage no longer appears in the overview
  • that dependent applications were switched to a different storage instance

Common issues

Access via an S3 tool stops working

Possible cause:

  • the privacy setting was changed and now restricts previous access

Deletion doesn't go through

Possible cause:

  • the entered text doesn't exactly match the name of the Object Storage
