Managing nameservers ​

This process adjusts the nameservers of a registered domain.

Note

Nameservers determine which DNS servers are responsible for the domain. Incorrect entries will make the domain unreachable.

Prerequisites ​

Before making changes, check:

  • that the new nameservers are correct and reachable
  • whether the zones at the target nameservers are already prepared (e.g. a DNS zone with the matching records)

Step-by-step guide ​

1. Sign in to the customer portal ​

Sign in with your account in the customer portal.

2. Open the domain ​

Open Domain in the main menu and select the desired domain.

3. Open the Nameservers section ​

Go to the Nameservers section.

4. Enter the nameservers ​

Enter the desired nameservers:

  • Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2 (required)
  • Nameserver 3 through Nameserver 5 (optional)

5. Save your changes ​

Click Update nameservers.

Result ​

The new nameservers are submitted to the responsible registry. Depending on the extension, the change may take some time to propagate fully across the internet.

Follow-up checks ​

After the change, check:

  • that the nameservers are shown correctly in the domain overview
  • that the domain resolves via the new nameservers (e.g. with dig NS your-domain.com)
  • that the associated DNS zone contains the required records

Common issues ​

Domain no longer resolves after the change ​

Possible causes:

  • the new nameservers are unreachable or misspelled
  • no matching DNS zone with the required records exists at the new nameservers
  • the change hasn't fully propagated across the internet yet

Nameservers can't be saved ​

Possible cause:

  • fewer than two nameservers were provided
